Dog Training is like a savings account. Time invested now will pay off big dividends in the future years of great companionship. We can help you build a stronger bond with your dog that's built on respect and trust.
A well-behaved and well-trained dog is a happy dog and a better companion. Trained dogs can be allowed more freedom and interaction with you and others. Our training is geared toward exercises that are practical in every day life. Every dog and owner is unique. Therefore, any number of techniques may be used, depending on your dog’s personality and your personal needs. These techniques, which emphasize consistency and patience, can create a dog whose only habit is being your best friend and a pleasurable member of the family.

Stephanie grew up in a big Texas family where the dogs always outnumbered the people. After graduating from Texas State University and spending ten years teaching elementary school in Los Angeles, Stephanie decided to turn her passion for dogs into a full time career. She returned to Austin, Texas and attended the prestigious Triple Crown Dog Academy, the world's leading educational center for professional dog trainers, and became a Certified Canine Trainer and Behavior Specialist. As a result of her comprehensive education, Stephanie has expertise in a wide variety of solutions to dog behavior problems, as well as dog training in the areas of obedience, puppy imprinting, agility, and Canine Good Citizen preparation. Each dog is unique in some way and will respond better to certain techniques than other dogs. Stephanie can help create a training program with your individual dog’s needs and your personal training goals in mind.

HOMEWORK:
At the end of every lesson, you will be provided a worksheet detailing Homework assignments, tips for generalization and maintenance, and other useful information regarding the particular lessons taught that day. Remember, it takes time to teach your dog to perform reliably and correctly. Dogs need three to six months of repetition and reinforcement to establish a behavior to long-term memory. This means that it is of the utmost importance that you continue to work with your dog after the lessons are over; if you want the training to stick. The longer you take to teach and reinforce the exercises, the better your dog will perform.
What Every Dog Needs:
In order to be happy, well-balanced, and sound, every dog needs three essential things: Exercise, mental stimulation, and communication. Review your dog's daily schedule and consider it honestly.
Exercise - This is a biggie! Does your dog get enough exercise? All Dogs love to walk. It's in their nature. It is absolutely true that a tired dog is a happy dog. Generally, a tired dog doesn't have the energy to tear up your new curtains or dig a hole to China in your backyard.
Communication - No matter what your Aunt Gertrude says about her 16 year old Poodle, dogs do not speak English. We have to show them and teach them how we want them to behave. The best way to accomplish this is through obedience training. Proper training creates happy, well-mannered dogs and fosters effective communication.
Mental Stimulation - There are many, many interactive toys on the market to help keep your doggie busy and entertained. Interactive toys are fun, tasty, and can help prevent destructive behaviors from bored dogs. These are especially useful when she must be left alone for any extended length of time. Check out the training section in our boutique for some fun choices. Chances are, if these three bases are covered, you have a very well-behaved and content doggie. More often than not, once a dog gets plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and communication, many of his behavior problems will simply extinguish.
How Dog's Learn (The Big Three):
We will teach you to train your dog using these three principles. With these three things in your toolbox, you can train your dog to just about anything!
Timing - Dogs live in the present. Good or bad, you must catch them in the act.
Consistency - You must be 100% consistent. There is no grey area for dogs. Training must be very clear. A rule is a rule.
Motivation - Praise and rewards. Good rewards can capture and sustain a dog's interest even if the neighbor's kitty cat is lolling on your porch.
